Welcoming Ramadan with Gunungan Apem Tradition in Malang

KBRN, Malang: The Megengan tradition took place at the Ki Ageng Gribig cemetery complex in Malang, East Java, Thursday (27/2/2025). As reported by Antara, the annual event features a parade of a mountain-like structure (gunungan) made of apem cakes to mark the arrival of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. Apem cakes, a pancake-shaped treat, are made from rice flour, eggs, coconut milk, sugar, and fermented cassava.
