Cing Cing Goling Preserves Gratitude and Unity

RRI.CO.ID, Gunungkidul - Cing Cing Goling is a traditional ceremony expressing community gratitude for agricultural harvests and shared prosperity. The ancestral tradition also strengthens unity among residents of Gedangan, Karangmojo, Gunungkidul, through communal rituals and cultural performances.

The tradition has been preserved by local residents for generations and remains an important part of community life. Residents believe continuing the ceremony can bring blessings while maintaining their ancestral cultural heritage.

The ceremony begins with residents preparing hundreds of ingkung chickens and other traditional offerings for communal prayers. After the prayers, residents distribute the offerings among people attending the ceremony as a symbol of shared blessings.

The tradition also features dozens of residents wearing traditional clothing and portraying warriors and knights. Their performances represent the ancestors believed to have established the early community in Gedangan.

A girl portraying a princess is also paraded around the agricultural field during the ceremony. These theatrical performances connect Cing Cing Goling with stories passed down through generations.

According to local tradition, the ceremony originated from Majapahit warriors who fled to the area. They reportedly built waterways and dams that helped local residents develop agriculture and provided protection against enemies.

The waterways and dams reportedly helped improve local agriculture and living conditions. Community cooperation also helped residents drive away criminals who had previously caused problems in the area.

During the ceremony, men portraying warriors and knights stomp across agricultural fields as part of the ritual. Landowners willingly allow the fields to be used because residents believe the ritual can help maintain soil fertility.
