Photography Exhibition Strengthens Indonesia-Latin America Cultural Ties

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The second Latin American photography exhibition, titled “Constelaciones Vivas,” has become a platform for cultural exchange while strengthening ties between Indonesia and Latin American countries. The exhibition was held in collaboration between the embassies of nine Latin American countries in Indonesia and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia at the National Gallery of Indonesia, Jakarta on 17 September 2026.

Deputy Minister of Culture Giring Ganesha said cultural cooperation between Indonesia and Latin American countries plays an important role in strengthening people-to-people relations. He said Indonesia and Latin America share diverse artistic and cultural traditions that can serve as a foundation for building greater cross-cultural understanding.

“Latin America and Indonesia both have great and rich cultures. We, the Indonesian people, deeply admire the art, culture, and people of Latin America,” Giring said during the exhibition at the National Gallery of Indonesia in Jakarta.

Giring said art and culture play an important role in diplomacy because they can bridge differences among people from diverse backgrounds. He noted that art and culture can transcend ethnic, racial, and geographical boundaries and bring people together as one human family.

The “Constelaciones Vivas,” or “Living Constellations,” exhibition features works by photographers from nine Latin American countries and Indonesia. The works present diverse perspectives on the lives, experiences, identities, and cultural richness of communities from different regions.

Through photography, the exhibition invites the public to see how images can convey stories and experiences that bridge differences in language and geographical distance. Photography also serves as a medium to showcase cultural diversity while fostering greater understanding between the people of Indonesia and Latin America.

The collaboration involves Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Uruguay, and Indonesia. The presence of works from these ten countries at the National Gallery of Indonesia provides a cultural platform that brings together perspectives from two regions with diverse geographical and cultural backgrounds.

The second Latin American photography exhibition is expected not only to broaden appreciation for photography but also to strengthen cultural exchange and people-to-people relations between Indonesia and Latin America. Similar cultural initiatives are expected to continue developing through further artistic and cultural collaborations that bring communities from both regions closer together.
