Minister Fadli Remembers Nasirun as a Maestro of Indonesian Fine Art

RRI.CO.ID, Yogyakarta - Indonesia's Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, has remembered Indonesian fine art maestro Nasirun as an artist who made a significant contribution to the development of the country’s art scene. He conveyed his condolences while attending a memorial gathering held by Nasirun’s family in Yogyakarta following the artist’s passing on August 1, 2026.

The Minister said he had known Nasirun for more than a decade and had developed a close relationship with the late artist. He said Nasirun’s passing was a major loss not only for his family, but also for fellow artists, colleagues, art enthusiasts, and Indonesians who knew his work and personality.

“He was a maestro of Indonesian fine art whom I had known for more than a decade. We have certainly lost an extraordinary figure who made a significant contribution to the development of Indonesian fine art,” Fadli said.

He also remembered Nasirun as a warm, open, and sociable person who easily connected with people from various backgrounds. He said Nasirun’s home and gallery were always open spaces where people could meet, talk, and experience the creative process.

“He was someone I knew as cheerful, very open, inclusive, and someone who socialized with everyone. The door to his home was always open to anyone,” Fadli said.

According to him, Nasirun’s openness was also reflected in his works, which were strongly rooted in Indonesian traditions and spirituality. He said wayang, traditional culture, and spiritual values were integrated into Nasirun’s artistic expression and became important elements of the maestro’s identity and creative work.

As a tribute to Nasirun’s contribution to Indonesian fine art, the Ministry of Culture plans to hold an exhibition of his works at the National Gallery of Indonesia to commemorate the 40th day since his passing. The exhibition is expected to provide an opportunity for the public and art enthusiasts to remember Nasirun’s artistic journey while appreciating his works once again.

Nasirun’s wife, Supartilah, expressed her appreciation for the support and recognition given to the late artist during his lifetime. She hoped that Nasirun’s works and dedication to art would continue to enrich the Indonesian art scene and encourage more people to appreciate the arts.
