RRI.CO.ID, Bandung - The inauguration of the Indonesian-Chinese Cultural Center Building in Bandung, West Java, stands as tangible proof that diverse cultural heritage can harmoniously coexist and blend with local communities.
Built by the Priangan Social Fund Foundation (YDSP) to mark its 50th golden anniversary on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, the new cultural facility was praised by Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan for reinforcing the city's multicultural fabric. Attending the event, West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi emphasized that the center must actively benefit surrounding residents by fostering community economic productivity rather than acting as an isolated landmark.
The provincial administration proposed integrating the Pasir Koja toll gate, sidewalks, and residential zones with Chinese-inspired architectural elements and lanterns, alongside hosting regularly funded joint Sundanese-Chinese cultural performances and entrepreneurship workshops for local residents to maximize tourism potential.
Regional leaders emphasized that physical cultural centers must serve as inclusive spaces for economic empowerment, inter-ethnic harmony, and shared artistic expression. Farhan highlighted the center's role in exemplifying unity in diversity across the city.
"This foundation demonstrates that the rich cultural diversity of Bandung can seamlessly integrate and merge with the surrounding community, the presence of this cultural center serves as clear proof of our living cultural diversity," he said during the inauguration ceremony in Bandung on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Dedi Mulyadi stressed the importance of community-centered development and ongoing cultural collaboration. He said that the building must not become a lighthouse that widens disparities with its surrounding environment, instead of relying on charity, local residents should be trained in culinary and handicraft productivity to capture economic opportunities from incoming tourists.
