RRI.CO.ID, Kuala Kapuas - The mass Ngaben (Pitra Yadnya) cremation ritual is a sacred Hindu rite of passage designed to return the physical elements of the deceased to the universe while freeing the soul (atma) to achieve spiritual liberation.
Conducted for 51 deceased relatives by the Banjar Merta Hindu community under the principle of Duwenang Sareng (shared ownership) in Batu Nindan Village, Basarang Subdistrict, Kapuas Regency, Central Kalimantan, the ritual reached its climax on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.
Deputy Regent of Kapuas Dodo officially dispatched the ceremonial cremation tower (Bade) alongside members of the regional leadership coordination forum (Forkopimda), local legislators, and customary figures. He commended the collective effort for easing financial burdens on families while showcasing deep-rooted gotong royong (mutual assistance) and preserving interfaith harmony across Kapuas under the local Huma Betang ethos.
Dodo commended the community's commitment to ancestral traditions and collective solidarity. He emphasized that preserving ancestral traditions reinforces social stability and regional unity.
"The mass Ngaben ceremony is not only a religious and spiritual duty to honor our ancestors, but also a clear reflection of our community's strong spirit of mutual assistance, this unity is a vital social asset in maintaining peace, harmony, and togetherness across Kapuas Regency," Dodo said in Batu Nindan Village on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, as quoted by Infopiblik.id.
He urged all residents to continue upholding regional harmony and passing these values to future generations.
"Let us continue to safeguard Kapuas Regency as a shared home for all citizens by upholding the spirit of Huma Betang, living together amidst diversity, respecting one another, and preserving our unity. We must instill these values of togetherness in the younger generation to serve as their foundation in carrying forward regional development," Dodo added. ***
