RRI.CO.ID, North Lombok - The annual Mulud Adat Bayan traditional ritual is set to take place at the historic Bayan Beleq Mosque complex in Bayan Subdistrict, North Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara, from August 26 to 29, 2026.

The 2026 observance marks the first time the indigenous cultural tradition has been officially included in the national tourism calendar, Karisma Event Nusantara (KEN) 2026. Jointly organized by indigenous elders, village authorities, and the North Lombok Regency Administration, the four-day event will preserve ancestral rituals including menyilaq (formal invitations), menutu (rice pounding), bisoq meniq (rice washing), mosque decorations, peresean martial arts displays, meriap communal feasts, and the praja mulud procession.

Authorities target approximately 2,000 visitors and have instituted strict customary codes, requiring modest traditional clothing, banning unauthorized drone usage, and restricting access to sacred zones, to preserve ritual sanctity while fostering cultural regeneration among local youth.

Local tourism and municipal officials emphasized that national recognition under KEN 2026 underscores the necessity of prioritizing cultural preservation and sacred values over commercial tourism demands.

Head of Marketing at the North Lombok Regency Tourism Office Fadli detailed the administrative principles governing the event.

"The inclusion of Mulud Adat Bayan into KEN 2026 is a source of pride as well as a challenge to maintain the values of local traditions passed down through generations, our principle is to strengthen the position of this tradition as a living cultural heritage. Tourism must adapt to culture, not culture adapting to the needs of tourists," Fadli stated in North Lombok on Thursday, August 20, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

He noted that empowering young people to safeguard customary practices serves as the core metric of success.

"The success of Mulud Adat Bayan is not measured by how many tourists arrive, but by how this tradition remains alive, respected, and passed down honorably," Fadli added. ***
