RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Acclaimed Indonesian director and writer Kamila Andini is set to return to the international stage as her latest Empat Musim Pertiwi (Four Seasons in Java) has been officially selected for the Centrepiece Programme at the 51st Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2026.

The selection places Indonesia among 54 countries represented in the program, which features 54 films from across the globe.

Production house Forka Films, in its statement released on Monday, August 10, 2026, described the work as blending psychological drama, science fiction, magical realism, and mystery.

Set against the dramatic backdrop of Mount Bromo, the film explores the inner journey of Pertiwi, a woman returning to her hometown after more than a decade in prison.

“It is a powerful metaphor for my character’s journey, majestic nature that can also feel deeply isolating,” Kamila explained, as quoted by Antara.

Producer Ifa Isfansyah said that Bromo had been envisioned as the setting since the project’s early development in 2017.

The production involved Indonesian partners such as Miles Films, Jagartha, Trinity Optima, Imajinari, Team Up, Julie Estelle, and Navvaros, alongside collaborators from France, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Saudi Arabia, and Singapore.

Starring Putri Marino, Arya Saloka, and Christine Hakim, Four Seasons in Java is scheduled for domestic release on October 8, 2026.

Kamila’s selection for TIFF 2026 continues her strong festival record, following the premiere of The Seen and Unseen at TIFF 2018--later honored at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards, Tokyo Filmex, and Berlinale Generation Kplus--and her 2021 triumph when Yuni won the prestigious Platform Prize. ***
