RRI.CO.ID, Denpasar - The mandatory display of traditional Balinese script (aksara Bali) across retail storefronts at Sira Village Grand Outlet, located within the Kura Kura Bali Special Economic Zone (SEZ), has received praise from lawmakers and cultural advocates for strengthening regional identity in modern commercial spaces.

Roughly 100 retail outlets in the new commercial complex are complying with Bali Provincial Regulation No. 1/2018 on Balinese Language, Script, and Literature by featuring traditional script alongside standard business signage. Managed by PT Bali Turtle Island Development (BTID), the architectural layout of Sira Village incorporates traditional Balinese spatial concepts, such as Bale and Natah elements, to create an eco-cultural shopping environment in Serangan Village.

Community leaders noted that embedding indigenous script into high-traffic public spaces prevents the script from becoming obsolete, sparking educational interest among youth and international visitors while establishing a model for commercial developments balancing economic growth with cultural preservation.

Parliamentarians and estate developers emphasized that embedding indigenous script into public commercial infrastructure fosters long-term cultural preservation without hindering modern enterprise.

House of Representatives Commission VI Member Gde Sumarjaya Linggih highlighted the social benefits of displaying traditional script in public spaces.

"If used continuously, people will become increasingly interested in learning it. That is part of cultural preservation, and this application further socializes Balinese script, the more frequently Balinese script is utilized in public spaces, the greater the public interest, particularly among the younger generation, to study it," Gde Sumarjaya Linggih said in Denpasar on Thursday, August 6, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

He also added that using Balinese script will not diminish its value or dignity, instead, it strengthens its existence and encourages everyday adoption.

Head of the Communications Department at PT Bali Turtle Island Development (BTID), Zefri Alfaruqy, reaffirmed the developer's commitment to supporting regional heritage policy.

"The application of Balinese script across all store signage is a concrete expression of our commitment to walk hand in hand with the Bali Provincial Administration's vision to maintain and reinforce Balinese cultural identity. Our development vision is not solely oriented toward economic growth, but must also strengthen local cultural identity. We hope the first mall in Serangan Village serves as an example that modern shopping centers can thrive in harmony with cultural preservation," Zefri Alfaruqy noted. ***
