RRI.CO.ID, Klaten - Indonesia's Klaten Fashion Festival (KFF) 2026 showcased the region's signature Sindu Melati batik motif through contemporary fashion. The event took place at the Juang '45 Monument in Klaten, Central Java, on Sunday, August 2, 2026.

The festival formed part of Klaten's 222nd anniversary celebration. This year's theme, "Sindu Melati Origin Code," highlighted the roots and identity of Klaten's signature batik motif through modern fashion designs.

Local designers combined the Sindu Melati motif with contemporary silhouettes, color combinations, and artistic concepts. Models further emphasized the motif's character through expressive performances on the runway.

Klaten Regent, Hamenang Wajar Ismoyo, said the festival promotes local designers and strengthens Klaten's cultural identity. He added that the event also introduces the region's traditional textiles to wider audiences.

"We must continue promoting this festival because it introduces our traditional textiles, which carry rich cultural values, symbolic meaning, and philosophy. We want them to gain recognition not only locally, but also nationally and internationally," he said.

The Sindu Melati batik motif was officially designated as Klaten's signature motif in 2019. The designation was renewed under the Klaten Regent's Decree in 2025.

Hamenang said promoting batik and lurik now requires creativity beyond conventional marketing methods. Innovation is needed in both product development and promotional strategies.

The festival also featured works by Klaten designers and activities supporting the local fashion creative economy. The event reflects Indonesia's efforts to preserve traditional textiles while expanding their international appeal.
