RRI.CO.ID, Bantul - The Yogyakarta Special Region Government strengthened inclusive culture through the 2026 Disability Culture Week in Bantul on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. The event combines arts, therapy services, education, and family support for children with disabilities.

The event was officially opened by the Yogyakarta Cultural Office at State Special School 2 Bantul. Running from July 28 to 30, 2026, the program carries the theme “MURAKABI” or Celebrating Diversity in an Inclusive Space.

Head of the Yogyakarta Cultural Office, Dian Lakshmi Pratiwi, said the event expands cultural programs as a platform for empowerment. The initiative collaborates with Mobile Therapy Service (Moekti) to provide integrated support.

The collaboration combines therapy, arts, education, and family assistance within one ecosystem. Previously, Moekti focused on therapy services involving two special schools and has expanded to 10 schools this year.

Dian said the program highlights equal opportunities for people with disabilities to create and contribute. She emphasized that physical and mental limitations should not prevent them from developing their potential.

“The MURAKABI theme shows that friends with disabilities have the same potential and opportunities to achieve, create, and provide positive contributions to society. Physical and mental limitations are not barriers to progress, collaboration, and bringing benefits to others,” she said.

The three-day event features therapy services, sign language workshops, product packaging training, and disability awareness activities. It also presents art exhibitions, cultural performances, and parenting discussions for teachers and families.

Chairperson of the 2026 Disability Culture Week Committee, M. Arif Wijayanto, said the event is more than a platform for showcasing works. He added that it builds public awareness about talents and creativity among people with disabilities.

“We hope the Disability Culture Week will become more inclusive in the future. Friends with disabilities should not only become participants but also key actors in organizing activities,” Arif said.

Through this program, the Yogyakarta Special Region Government aims to provide wider spaces for children with disabilities. The initiative also supports inclusive cultural development that allows everyone to participate equally.
