RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Head of the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. E. Aminudin Aziz, underscored the importance of strengthening special libraries as dynamic knowledge hubs that support learning, innovation, and public services. He delivered the remarks during the inauguration of the Ranggawarsita Library at Indonesia's Ministry of Culture in Jakarta on Monday, July 20, 2026.

The inauguration reflects the Ministry of Culture's commitment to improving knowledge management and expanding public access to cultural resources. The initiative also aligns with the ministry's broader effort to strengthen cultural preservation through modern and inclusive library services.

He also noted that Indonesia currently has 9,147 special libraries, a significant number that demonstrates the country's potential knowledge infrastructure. However, he acknowledged that their development remains uneven, as institutional commitment to library management varies across ministries and government agencies.

The Head of Library emphasized that some institutions have developed highly active libraries that provide extensive services to both employees and the public, while others maintain libraries only as administrative formalities. According to him, this disparity highlights the need for stronger guidance and more effective library governance nationwide.

Responding to a request from Minister of Culture Fadli Zon, the National Library assigned a professional librarian to support the operation of the Ranggawarsita Library. Aminudin said the move reflects the National Library's commitment to ensuring the library functions effectively, not merely as a repository of books but as a well-managed public knowledge center.

He explained that modern libraries have evolved beyond their traditional role as book storage facilities. Through the Social Inclusion-Based Library Transformation program, libraries are now expected to become spaces for creative activities, productive learning, community engagement, and lifelong education.

Aminudin expressed confidence that the Ranggawarsita Library will become a model for modern special libraries, supported by the Ministry of Culture's extensive cultural resources and institutional partnerships. He also praised Minister Fadli Zon's strong commitment to strengthening knowledge management and expanding access to cultural information.
