RRI.CO.ID, Madrid - Indonesia’s Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, reaffirmed the country’s commitment to supporting the recovery of Palestine’s cultural sector through closer bilateral cooperation. The initiative reflects Indonesia’s longstanding support for the Palestinian people and its belief that culture plays a vital role in preserving national identity, dignity, and continuity.

The commitment was conveyed during Fadli Zon’s bilateral meeting with Palestinian Minister of Culture Emad AlDin Hamdan on the sidelines of the International Conference on the Reconstruction of the Cultural Sector in Palestine, held in Madrid, Spain, on July 15–16, 2026. The meeting focused on exploring strategic initiatives to strengthen the reconstruction of Palestine’s cultural sector through international collaboration.

He emphasized that Indonesia views culture as a fundamental pillar in safeguarding a nation’s identity and resilience. He said cultural cooperation also serves as an effective platform for fostering mutual understanding and strengthening solidarity among nations.

“Indonesia is ready to expand cultural cooperation with Palestine, including through joint film productions, the translation of Palestinian literary works into Indonesian, and various other cultural programs. Through culture, people can better understand the history, identity, and values that a nation strives to preserve,” Fadli said.

During the meeting, the Palestinian government presented its proposal to establish an Indonesia–Palestine Cultural Centre in Jerusalem as a space for Palestinians to gather, create, and express themselves. Palestine also invited Indonesia to participate in the initiative as part of broader efforts to restore and preserve the country’s cultural heritage.

Indonesia is also exploring the establishment of a Palestinian Struggle Museum at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) in Jakarta. The museum is envisioned as an educational space that showcases Palestine’s tangible and intangible cultural heritage while documenting the Palestinian people's struggle to preserve their identity and pursue independence.

“We want Indonesians to know Palestine not only through the lens of conflict, but also through its civilization, arts, traditions, and rich cultural heritage. We hope this museum will become a symbol of friendship and Indonesia’s solidarity with Palestine,” Fadli said.

The two ministers agreed to follow up on the outcomes of the meeting as part of the implementation of the cultural cooperation memorandum of understanding signed in September 2025. The agreement is expected to deepen collaboration in cultural preservation, cultural diplomacy, and the protection of Palestine’s cultural identity while strengthening the long-standing partnership between Indonesia and Palestine.
