RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia's Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs have strengthened their collaboration to develop a national digital ecosystem rooted in the country's cultural values. The commitment was reaffirmed during a meeting at the Ministry of Culture's office in Jakarta aimed at ensuring that digital transformation supports the advancement of Indonesian culture.

According to a press release received by RRI Voice of Indonesia in Jakarta on July 2, 2026, the two ministries discussed strategic initiatives to integrate cultural values into Indonesia's digital transformation agenda. The collaboration is expected to ensure that technological development goes hand in hand with cultural preservation and promotion.

Minister of Culture Fadli Zon, said digital transformation should be utilized as an instrument to strengthen and advance Indonesian culture. "Culture and the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs are closely connected. Culture itself encompasses a broad spectrum through the ten Objects of Cultural Advancement. In today's global civilization, digital technology must play an important role," he said.

Fadli explained that the Ministry of Culture has introduced a number of digital initiatives, including digital video competitions on museums and cultural heritage, the Folk Story Gala, Letters to Heroes, immersive museum technology, video mapping, interactive displays, and the Media Arts Community Festival, which combines artistic expression with digital technology. He added that Indonesia has also recorded 2,727 Intangible Cultural Heritage elements as part of its efforts to strengthen the cultural and creative economy.

The minister also affirmed the importance of establishing regulations and governance for artificial intelligence (AI) that encourage creativity while protecting the sustainability of Indonesia's cultural ecosystem and creative industries. According to him, technological innovation should create opportunities for cultural practitioners without undermining their intellectual and creative works.

Indonesia's Minister of Communication and Digital, Affairs Meutya Hafid, welcomed the strengthened cooperation, saying that digitalization and culture are complementary pillars in building a resilient Indonesian society. She noted that between 227 and 230 million Indonesians, or around 80 percent of the country's population, are now connected to the internet, presenting both opportunities and challenges for promoting productive and culturally responsible use of digital platforms.

The two ministries also identified several areas for future collaboration, including AI regulations that protect artists' works, stronger cultural promotion through digital media, protection of cultural data, expanded public access to culture through digital platforms, and cultural programs supporting the implementation of Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on Child Protection in Electronic Systems.

The partnership is expected to ensure that Indonesia's digital transformation not only drives innovation and economic growth but also strengthens the nation's cultural identity amid rapid global change.
