RRI.CO.ID, Samosir – The Samosir Music International (SMI) 2026 festival is scheduled to take place from July 2 to 4, 2026, in Samosir Regency, North Sumatra. As one of the events included in Indonesia's Kharisma Event Nusantara (KEN) calendar, SMI 2026 highlights the synergy between music, culture, tourism, and the creative economy. The festival actively involves local communities, including children, youth, and cultural groups, who will participate in various performances throughout the event.
Beyond serving as a platform for artistic expression, SMI also creates opportunities for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), service providers, and tourism businesses to take part in the event's operations and economic activities. The initiative is expected to boost the local economy around the Lake Toba area.
This year's festival will feature a special participation from music and cultural communities from South Papua. Around 20 participants are scheduled to perform traditional dances and musical performances while also showcasing creative products at exhibition booths prepared by the organizing committee. Their participation is expected to strengthen the spirit of national unity while enriching the cultural diversity presented during the festival.
The first day of SMI will begin with a traditional Batak ritual led by the Batak Traditional Council of Samosir, offering prayers for the smooth and successful implementation of the event. The program will continue with free health services for local residents, followed by regional music and cultural performances. All activities on the opening day will be open to the public free of charge.
On the second day, the festival will feature a mass tortor (traditional Batak dance) involving residents of Tuktuk and surrounding areas, followed by a welcoming dance for invited guests and performers. The evening concert will showcase performances by Lyodra, Style Voice, Dorman Rani and Band, Saut Situmorang, and Ogar Nababan.
The third and final day, which marks the festival's grand finale, will begin with the inaugural SMI Run, expected to attract around 700 participants. In the evening, audiences will enjoy collaborations between Indonesian and international musicians, including Punkgoaran, Bermarga, Maite Hontelé y La Novia from the Netherlands, Alsant Nababan, and Viky Sianipar Band alongside musicians from Germany and the United Kingdom.
Local performers such as Imorta Band, Jabu Habinsaran, Hutur Band, Yossy Tambunan, Mangasi Simamora, Helmina Waruwu, and several traditional musicians will also take the stage. Visitors are required to purchase tickets to attend the festival on the second and third days.
According to the organizing committee, public enthusiasm for SMI 2026 has been overwhelmingly positive. Promotional campaigns on social media over the past few months have received encouraging responses from various communities. Hotel occupancy rates in Tuktuk and nearby areas have also increased significantly, with several accommodations reportedly reaching full capacity ahead of the event.
The growing number of visitors is expected to generate positive economic impacts for local communities, particularly for MSMEs, culinary businesses, transportation services, hotels, and other creative economy sectors.
As part of the Kharisma Event Nusantara calendar, Samosir Music International is expected to further strengthen Indonesia's tourism promotion while introducing the cultural richness of Lake Toba to both domestic and international audiences through an inclusive celebration of music and culture.
