RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, has reaffirmed the government's commitment to preserving the legacy of Indonesia's first vice president and founding father, Mohammad Hatta, through a series of cultural and historical initiatives. The commitment was conveyed during a meeting with Meutia Hatta, daughter of Mohammad Hatta, at the Ministry of Culture in Jakarta, 29 June 2026.

The discussion focused on efforts to safeguard Hatta's historical legacy and strengthen public understanding of his contributions to Indonesia's independence. The initiatives are part of the ministry's broader mission to preserve the nation's historical narrative while inspiring future generations.

Fadli described Mohammad Hatta as one of Indonesia's most influential national figures whose role in the country's independence remains indispensable. "We will help redesign the exhibition at Bung Hatta's birthplace based on the timeline of his life, including photographs and his published works," the minister said.

In addition to revitalizing Hatta's birthplace, the Ministry of Culture plans to inaugurate the Hatta and Sjahrir Museum in Sukabumi, West Java. The site was once the place of exile for Mohammad Hatta and fellow independence leader Sutan Sjahrir during the colonial period.

The minister also announced plans to launch a film competition featuring stories from Indonesia's history, including a film about Mohammad Hatta. Another initiative involves translating books about Hatta into English to introduce his ideas and legacy to a broader international audience.

Fadli further proposed that Hatta's residence in Megamendung, Bogor, West Java, be nominated as a National Cultural Heritage site. "I hope his house can become a historical destination and be fully utilized for educational and cultural purposes," he said.

Meutia Hatta welcomed the government's plan to revitalize her father's residence, describing it as an important landmark that reflects Indonesia's struggle for independence. She also shared several upcoming commemorative programs and expressed hope that the Minister of Culture would participate in those events.

The meeting marked another step in the Ministry of Culture's efforts to preserve Indonesia's historical heritage through museum development, heritage conservation, film production, and educational initiatives. The ministry believes these programs will help ensure that Mohammad Hatta's legacy continues to inspire both Indonesians and international audiences for generations to come.
