RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) features a museum that showcases the nation’s cultural history, namely 'Museum Indonesia' or Indonesian Museum. This museum preserves and displays objects from the past.
Based on the Indonesian Museum’s website, the museum was officially inaugurated by Indonesian President Soeharto on April 20, 1980. This historic moment coincided with the 5th anniversary of the TMII tourism area.
The construction of the museum was the brainchild and initiative of First Lady Tien Soeharto. At that time, she urged the community to donate representative cultural artifacts from various regions.
As stated by the TMII website, support poured in from many groups, including the government, the private sector, and the public. This collaborative effort successfully amassed a comprehensive and diverse cultural collection.
The museum’s first floor strongly emphasizes the theme of “Bhinneka Tunggal Ika,” or Unity in Diversity. This area showcases traditional attire, traditional musical instruments, and a collection of wayang puppets from across the archipelago.
The second floor, titled “Humans and the Environment,” is designed to educate visitors. It features replicas of traditional ceremonies, miniature traditional houses, and various historical modes of transportation.
The third floor, titled “Art and Craft,” showcases handcrafted works. Visitors can view woven fabrics, batik, silver crafts, and a collection of traditional bladed weapons.
In the center of the third floor stands a large icon, a replica of the Tree of Life. This 8-meter-tall copper sculpture symbolizes the essential elements of the universe.
This educational destination is open daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Jakarta time. Anyone can visit by purchasing an admission ticket priced at Rp10,000 per person.
