RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia and Uruguay are marking six decades of diplomatic relations through the Panorámica art exhibition, a cultural initiative that highlights the role of art in fostering international understanding. The exhibition is organized by the Embassy of Uruguay in Jakarta, Thursday, 4 June 2026, in collaboration with Indonesia’s Ministry of Culture and the National Gallery of Indonesia.
Officially opening the exhibition, Indonesia’s Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, praised the Embassy of Uruguay for initiating the program. He said diplomatic relations are not measured solely through political or economic cooperation, but are also strengthened through cultural connections between nations.
According to the Minister, Panorámica provides Indonesian audiences with an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Uruguay’s cultural identity through artistic expression. He noted that the exhibition reflects the country’s history, social dynamics, and diverse cultural heritage.
“Through Panorámica, the Indonesian public has a valuable opportunity to explore the richness of Uruguayan artistic expression, reflecting its history, cultural identity, and the dynamics of its society,” Fadli Zon said.
The minister added that the artworks encourage visitors to see the world from different perspectives while demonstrating how art can serve as a universal language. He said cultural exchanges can strengthen people-to-people connections and promote greater cross-cultural understanding among nations.
Uruguay’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Cristina González, described the exhibition as an important platform for introducing Uruguay’s cultural identity to Indonesian audiences. She said Panorámica reflects the spirit of Uruguay while highlighting values that resonate across cultures.
“Panorámica represents the spirit of Uruguay while showcasing universal values that are also close to Indonesian culture, such as the relationship between people and nature, tradition, and identity,” González said.
The exhibition features works by Uruguayan artists Luis Fabini and Manuel Rodríguez, each offering a distinct interpretation of landscape and humanity’s relationship with nature. Fabini’s photography documents the life of the gaucho, an iconic figure in Uruguayan culture, while Rodríguez’s Infinite Dawn watercolor series presents landscapes as reflective spaces shaped by movement, light, and personal experience.
Open to the public from June 5 to June 28, 2026, at the National Gallery of Indonesia in Jakarta, Panorámica also includes public programs such as an artist forum with Manuel Rodríguez and screenings of Uruguayan films. Organizers hope the exhibition will deepen cultural dialogue and further strengthen the bridge of understanding between Indonesia, Uruguay, and the wider international community.
