RRI.CO.ID, Tanah Datar - A plan to build a traditional Minangkabau house in Texas has drawn warm support from Tanah Datar officials. On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, Deputy Regent Ahmad Fadly welcomed representatives of Sanggar Budaya Nusantara (SBN) from Texas, USA, during an audience at the Tanah Datar Education Office Hall.

The delegation, led by Cary Suprobo, was received by Acting Assistant for Government and Welfare Afrizon, Tanah Datar Customary Council of Minangkabau Nature (LKAAM) Chair Aresno Dt. Andomo, Education Office Head Alfi Hidayati, Investment and One-Stop Integrated Service (PMPTSP) Head Syofa Nofa Budianto, Tourism and Sports Head Inhendri Abbas, and other regional officials.

Speaking on behalf of SBN, Cary expressed gratitude for the warm reception and outlined plans to construct a rumah gadang bagonjong in Texas.

“This project will introduce Indonesian cultural heritage to the community in Texas. It aligns with SBN’s vision to establish a cultural center for the Indonesian diaspora and broader society, and to pass this legacy on to future generations,” he said, as quoted on Tanah Datar Administration official website.

The house is scheduled for completion in spring 2028. Deputy Regent Ahmad Fadly welcomed the initiative, calling it a source of pride for Tanah Datar and the Minangkabau people.

“Having our traditional house built abroad is an honor. We fully support this effort,” he noted, adding that the project could also showcase Minangkabau culinary treasures such as rendang, as well as local crafts like batik and other Tanah Datar MSME products.

Fadly emphasized that the construction should respect the cultural rules and philosophy of Minangkabau architecture. “We are ready to help connect SBN with stakeholders who can support the realization of this plan,” he concluded. ***
