RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The spirit of Indonesian culture is resonating across Central Asia, with traditional Javanese music captivating thousands of spectators at an international festival.

Ki Ageng Ganjur, a religious-inspired music group from Yogyakarta, performed at the Boysun Bukhori International Folklore Festival in Boysun District, Surkhandarya, Uzbekistan, on Saturday, May 2, 2026. The event featured participants from various countries.

Before a global audience, the group presented the Javanese song “Caping Gunung” in two arrangements, as reported by Antara on Sunday, May 3. The Langgam version created a gentle atmosphere, while the Sragenan version offered a more dynamic rhythm.

Ganjur vocalist Chris Verani opened with a serene bowo (introductory chant) that drew the audience into silence. The gamelan instruments, brought directly from Indonesia, stood out as a unique attraction amid the dominance of modern instruments used by other performers.

The performance shifted into the energetic Sragenan style, sparking enthusiastic applause as the audience joined in dancing to the rhythm.

Backup dancer Eci reinforced the song’s meaning through interpretive movements in harmony with the music, adding a visual dimension to the performance.

At the official dinner, Ki Ageng Ganjur also performed “Maumere,” inviting guests to dance along and creating a warm, festive, and interactive atmosphere. ***
