RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – A cheerful and colorful atmosphere filled the Cilandak area of South Jakarta as dozens of young children dressed in traditional costumes from various regions participated in a parade to commemorate Kartini Day.

Efforts to introduce the figure of Raden Ajeng Kartini to the younger generation continue through various educational and creative activities. One of them is a traditional costume parade involving early childhood students.

The activity serves as a fun way for children to learn about Kartini’s struggle for women’s emancipation in Indonesia. By wearing various traditional outfits, children are introduced not only to Kartini, but also to the richness of Indonesia’s cultural heritage.

Such the event was held by RA An Ni’imah, a kindergarten located in Cilandak, South Jakarta. As part of the Kartini Day celebration, the school organized a series of activities starting with a simple ceremony, followed by a fashion show in the classroom showcasing the students’ traditional attire.

The celebration became even more lively as the children were taken around the neighborhood on an odong-odong ride while wearing their traditional costumes. The event also drew much attention from local residents who came out to watch.

Treasurer of RA An Ni’imah, Nurul Nabilah, conveyed that celebrating Kartini Day through parades and storytelling is not merely an annual tradition, but also a symbol of appreciation for the significant changes Kartini brought to the Indonesian nation.

“The parade featuring traditional attire is a moment to foster national identity. Kartini was very proud of her culture, yet she remained forward-thinking. Wearing kebaya or traditional clothing during the parade reflects a balance between preserving cultural roots and embracing a progressive mindset,” she said.

Through this activity, it is hoped that the values and spirit of Raden Ajeng Kartini can be instilled in children from an early age. In addition, love for Indonesian culture continuously grows through Kartini Day celebrations that are creatively packaged in a fun and engaging way.
