RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Culture has announced plans to develop the winning screenplays from the SINEMA 2026 Scenario Competition into cinematic productions. This initiative is designed to bolster the national film industry by ensuring a steady supply of high-quality, curated narratives.

Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, highlighted that a primary challenge facing Indonesian cinema is the scarcity of professionally curated scripts. He emphasized that the competition serves as a vital pipeline for harvesting top-tier creative ideas.

"The availability of these scripts is crucial. Historically, one of our weaknesses has been the lack of a curated selection of screenplays," the Minister told reporters following the SINEMA 2026 Awards at the Primary and Secondary Education Ministry Building, South Jakarta, on Monday, April 20, 2026.

He remarked that the selected scripts represent the pinnacle of quality, having undergone a rigorous evaluation by a professional jury. This vetted material serves as a solid foundation for the upcoming production phase.

He further noted that the government will facilitate the production process by partnering with producers and other industry stakeholders. This collaborative approach is expected to streamline the transition from page to screen.

"We will push for the production of these scripts through strategic partnerships involving producers and relevant industry players," he asserted.

Through this move, the government aims to strengthen the national film ecosystem while creating opportunities for premium films born from the exceptional creative work of the nation’s youth.

The competition itself saw remarkable engagement, according to the Director of Film, Music, and Arts at the Ministry of Culture, Irini Dewi Wanti. "A total of 525 scripts were registered during the submission period. This includes 259 short film scripts and 266 feature-length scripts from various regions across Indonesia," she explained.

Irini observed that themes of heroism and national identity, when given the proper platform, exert a powerful creative draw and hold high relevance for creators looking to reinterpret the spirit of national pride in a modern context. ***
