RRI.CO.ID, Klaten - The Indonesian community held the Grebeg Syawal tradition at Bukit Sidoguro in Klaten, Saturday, March 28, 2026. The event took place one week after Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri.

It is part of Indonesia’s post Ramadan cultural traditions. Since morning, residents crowded the Bukit Sidoguro area to join the celebration.

The event began with a procession of ketupat cones from the foot of the hill. Visitors gathered along the route to witness the tradition.

A total of 18 ketupat cones filled with rice cakes and crops were prepared. Organizers also distributed 1,000 portions of opor ketupat to visitors. This added to the festive atmosphere of the annual event.

The Syawalan tradition marks a transition after a month of fasting during Ramadan. It symbolizes becoming a better and more caring person. Ketupat also represents “ngaku lepat,” or admitting mistakes in Javanese philosophy.

Before delivering his remarks, Acting Head of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Sports Office of Klaten Purwanto highlighted the event’s meaning. He said the tradition strengthens ties between the local government and community. It also becomes a moment to ask and give forgiveness.

“This event is also a form of preserving cultural traditions that have existed in society for generations,” he said.

Before giving his statement, Klaten Regent Hamenang Wajar Ismoyo emphasized togetherness through the tradition. He said the event becomes a moment to reconnect and share. It also reflects efforts to preserve ancestral culture.

“This is a special moment because we can forgive each other together. Grebeg Syawal is also a way to preserve traditions passed down by our ancestors. Through this event, we share happiness together,” he added.
