RRI.CO.ID, Tokyo – Marking the holy month of Ramadan 1447 H, the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Japan, Nurmala Kartini Sjahrir, attended the iftar gathering together with more than 500 Indonesian Muslims at the Indonesian Hall in Tokyo on Saturday, 28 February 2026.
This communal iftar event was a collaboration between the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo and the Indonesian Muslim Community Association (KMII) in Japan, with support from the Indonesia Mosque Tokyo (MIT) and the Indonesian Muslim Women's Association (KIJ) in Japan.
"I would like to express my gratitude to all Indonesian Muslims so that we can gather and break our fast together during this holy month of Ramadan 1447 H. I appreciate the spirit of unity and camaraderie shown by all of you who reside in Japan. This bond of friendship is the key to our lives, whether we are single or have families here in this land far from home," said Ambassador Kartini Sjahrir, quoted from official statement.
The Ambassador was accompanied by the Deputy Chief of Mission, Maria Renata Hutagalung; the Coordinator for Socio-Cultural Information Affairs at the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, Muhammad Al Aula; and the First Secretary for Socio-Cultural Affairs at the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, Iqbal Mohammad Amrullah.
"I urge those of you who have not yet completed your Consular Report (Lapor Diri) to do so immediately. This report greatly assists us in our efforts to provide optimal protection to all Indonesian citizens. Continue to maintain your spirit of togetherness and comply with all regulations in effect in Japan," she added.
Before breaking the fast, hundreds of Indonesian Muslims took part in a series of regular Ramadan activities, such as 'Joyful Ramadan' (Ramadan Ceria) for children and a grand congregational sermon (Tablig Akbar) with Ustadz Erlan Iskandar, who delivered a talk on Islamic parenting and educational stories for children.
"We extend our thanks to Ambassador Kartini Sjahrir and the entire team at the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo for their support in the series of Ramadan 1447 H activities. May this cooperation further strengthen our efforts to serve the Indonesian Muslim community in Japan," Chairman of KMII Japan, Erwin Avianto, said.
In addition to worship activities such as tarawih prayers, Qur'an recitation (tadarus), pre-dawn meals (sahur), and breaking the fast, a number of events are held every weekend during Ramadan. These include the Indonesian Islamic Cultural Event, which aims to introduce Islam as a mercy to all creation (rahmatan lil alamin) along with various Indonesian arts, culture, and culinary delights.
Furthermore, a social service activity was also carried out in the vicinity of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, a collaboration between KMII Japan, the Indonesian National Nurses Association (PPNI), and the Indonesian Muslim Nurses Association (IPMI).
