RRI.CO.ID, Sharjah - The Indonesian Consulate General in Dubai has expressed appreciation for the participation of photographer Hengki Koentjoro at the Xposure International Photography Festival 2026. Consul General Denny Lesmana assessed Hengki’s presence as an important achievement in strengthening Indonesia’s cultural diplomacy through visual arts.
This international photography festival was held in Aljada, Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, from January 29 to February 4, 2026. The event became a significant moment as Hengki was the only representative from Indonesia at the prestigious festival.
“Hengki Koentjoro’s participation in the 10th edition of Xposure shows that the works of Indonesian photographers are able to compete and gain recognition on the global stage," Denny Lesmana said in his statement on Sunday, February 8, 2026.
"The Indonesian visual identity presented carries strong philosophical depth and goes beyond merely representing exotic beauty,” he added.
Xposure 2026 successfully showcased more than 3,200 photographic works from talented creators across the world. The organizers involved more than 420 photographers and visual creators from 60 different countries.
This prestigious event is widely known as a meeting point for the global photojournalism and visual arts community.

Hengki presented black-and-white photographic works titled Liquid Planet, using a highly aesthetic long-exposure approach. The artworks invite every visitor to pause momentarily and immerse themselves in the emotions found within the textures of Indonesia’s marine nature.
“Through these works, Hengki Koentjoro has succeeded in demonstrating that Indonesian photography possesses narrative strength rooted in observation, patience, and an awareness of the importance of environmental preservation,” Denny said.
Hengki’s unique artistic approach provides a profound perspective amid the dynamic atmosphere of the international festival. This photographic style beautifully reflects the values of serenity and balance found within the natural landscapes of the Indonesian archipelago.
“Although currently only one Indonesian photographer is participating as a main exhibition participant, we hope that in the future more national talents will be present with diverse perspectives, ranging from photojournalism to nature conservation. This will strengthen Indonesia’s representation in the global creative industry,” Denny continued.
Photography has become an effective instrument of cultural diplomacy to introduce natural wealth to the international community in attendance. This medium also reveals Indonesia’s social and cultural realities to the people of the United Arab Emirates.
Indonesian photographers present visual narratives about the beauty of nature and the sustainability of life across the beloved archipelago. The world needs to see that cultural depth and responsibility toward nature are shared values of humanity.

“Events such as the Xposure Photography Festival in Sharjah are a golden opportunity for Indonesian photographers to promote their works and Indonesian culture on the international stage. Through this participation, Indonesia not only increases its cultural visibility but also opens doors for cooperation and collaboration with the international art community,” said Frans Watu, Vice President of the NGO Lumbung Informasi Rakyat (LIRA).
Participation in this prestigious event opens wide opportunities for cooperation with various international photographers and artists. The moment also tangibly and significantly strengthens Indonesia’s positive image in the eyes of the international community.
“Hopefully Indonesia’s participation in events like this will continue and bring benefits to the development of Indonesian arts and culture,” he concluded. (Diffa Sephiawardhani/Sri Wahyuni)
