RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Nurhaidah, Chairperson of the Rimpu Nusantara Cultural Foundation (YBRN), said that rimpu is a fundamental cultural value that the organization continues to support. The Bima people have historically worn rimpu, a traditional attire.

As part of cultural preservation, she said that the rimpu cultural festival is conducted yearly in Bima City and Bima Regency. Through this activity, the identities of the Bima and Dompu people in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) are continually reinforced.

"As there is a Rimpu Cultural Festival every year in Bima City and Bima Regency. The philosophy is that we, the Bima people, have always wore the hijab," she told RRI prior to the Inauguration of the Rimpu Nusantara Cultural Foundation Management for the 2025-2030 period at the East Jakarta Mayor's Office on Saturday, February 7, 2026.

According to Nurhaidah, the rimpu philosophy demonstrates that the Bima people have been wearing the hijab since the colonial era. In their daily lives, Bima women have utilized rimpu to as dresses to cover their bodies.

The woman's standing in traditional Bima society, she said, is immediately apparent from the way she utilizes rimpu. Unlike married women, who show their entire face, virgins just show their eyes.

The younger generation should be enthusiastic about fostering the culture and crafts of the Bima-Dompu area, according to Nurhaidah. She anticipated that in the future, the creative ideas of young people would help the region's economy and advance culture.

"My message, particularly to young people, is to be passionate about creating culture and crafts. Let's use our creativity to move our region and the economy forward," she said.
