RRI.CO.ID, Tarutung - Indonesian Minister of Culture Fadli Zon visited Huta Art Space in Siborongborong, North Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra. The visit was a token of appreciation for the community's cultural preservation and advancement initiatives.

Located in the Lake Toba area, Huta Art Space is an arts and culture space founded by Indonesian photographer Edward Tigor Siahaan on December 5, 2024. It serves as a creative platform combining art, history, and the lives of the Batak people. It also serves as a center for exhibitions, art performances, and cultural activities based on local heritage.

During the visit, the Minister of Culture reviewed the photo exhibition, "Batak Retrospective: Inspiration from the Past," which is currently taking place at Huta Art Space. The exhibition revisits the lives of the Batak people, particularly in Bonapasogit (their ancestral homeland), through historical photographs from European photographers, anthropologists, and researchers. The photographs are arranged retrospectively and chronologically.

It highlights various aspects of Batak life, including livelihoods, traditions, culture, and achievements in education, health, and carpentry. Through this approach, the exhibition aims to raise awareness of and appreciation for cultural heritage and the struggles of previous generations.

Minister of Culture Fadli Zon praised the Huta Art Space initiative, calling it a model for advancing culture at the local level. Huta Art Space shows how individuals can actively contribute to Indonesian culture.

"What Mr. Tigor has done exemplifies how a love of culture can promote national culture. This aligns with the constitutional mandate to advance national culture amidst global civilization," Minister Fadli Zon said on Saturday, February 8, 2026, according to the ministry's official website.

He also praised Tigor Siahaan for returning to his hometown of Siborong-Borong and establishing an independent cultural space for arts and activities.

"I thank Mr. Tigor for establishing Huta Art Space as a cultural enclave. This place is not only an exhibition space but also a vibrant space for cultural activities, designed by him," he continued.

The Minister of Culture expressed hope that Huta Art Space will continue to present various cultural activities and collaborate with the Ministry of Culture to elevate and promote local culture.

The visit reaffirms the ministry's commitment to supporting community-based cultural initiatives and strengthening the role of local cultural spaces as platforms for education, historical reflection, and inspiration for future generations. ***
