RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Katreji Dance is one of the traditional dances typical of Maluku that is still preserved to this day. This dance is usually performed in pairs by male and female dancers, with a cheerful atmosphere.

Katreji is known as a social dance of the Maluku people. This dance is often performed at various traditional events, folk celebrations, and even to welcome important guests.

Historically, the Katreji Dance shows the influence of European culture, particularly Portuguese and Dutch. These elements then blended with local traditions and formed the dance's unique identity.

The introduction of this dance to Maluku is thought to have occurred during the colonial period. Over time, the local community adapted the movements and musical accompaniment to suit local culture.

Over time, the Katreji Dance has been varied with movements and accompanying music, but the concept remains the same: performed in pairs, usually 5-10 pairs, and wearing traditional Maluku attire.

Female dancers typically wear long kebayas, long skirts, and rose flowers on their heads as decoration. Male dancers, on the other hand, wear long shirts and trousers.

The musical accompaniment of the Katreji Dance tends to be light and rhythmic. Instruments used include the violin, ukulele, bamboo flute, tifa, and other traditional instruments.

In the social life of the Maluku people, the Katreji Dance plays an important role. Besides entertainment, it also symbolizes togetherness and joy at various traditional celebrations.
