KBRN, Jakarta: To celebrate the 100th anniversary of Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor (Darussalam Gontor Modern Islamic Boarding School), the Ministry of Culture is showcasing two of Indonesia's most iconic art forms, angklung and batik at the World Muslim Scout Jamboree (WMSJ) 2025 in Cibubur Camping Ground, East Jakarta.
This event, which brings together Muslim scouts from around the globe, serves as a powerful platform for cultural diplomacy. Both angklung and batik, recognized by UNESCO as world cultural heritage, were chosen for the event.
The Ministry of Culture emphasized the importance of introducing these traditions to the younger generation, especially with the international participation.
"This is the best momentum, and it is our obligation to ensure that angklung and batik are promoted, communicated, and informed, both at the national and global levels," said Undri, Director of Cultural Promotion at the Ministry of Culture, on Tuesday, September 9, 2025.
"Especially since this activity is also attended not only by young people in Indonesia but also young people from various countries globally," he added.
The ministry is promoting these traditions through various activities, including angklung and batik workshops led by masters in their fields. A special exhibition space was also set up to showcase the culture.
The WMSJ 2025, which has a theme of We are Muslim, Civilized, United, and Peaceful and is the first of its kind, is seen as an important stage for cultural diplomacy. The event hosts 15,333 participants from 16 countries.
"We want the world to see that Indonesia has a cultural heritage that is no less important than other countries," Undri said.
"Culture can be a means of unity and togetherness, both at the national and global levels. These workshops and exhibitions are a means for young people to not only get to know but also directly experience the process of artistry and creation," he concluded. ***
