KBRN, Bengkulu: The beronang is a traditional basket that was often carried by villagers to transport their harvest and daily supplies to the fields. Now, the beronang is also on display at the Bengkulu State Museum as a way to preserve local weaving traditions.

More than just a container, this type of basket has become a symbol of the community’s creativity and local wisdom. Its presence in daily village life highlights the deep connection between the people, nature, and their inherited cultural traditions.

According to Rika, a guidance staff member at the Bengkulu State Museum, any beronang that becomes a museum collection first goes through a screening process by the collection team. They gather detailed information about its origin, materials, and weaving techniques before it is put on display.

"It's usually screened by the collection team first. We look for information on which area it's from, what the materials are, and how it was made," she explained.

The presence of the beronang at the Bengkulu State Museum is a clear sign of local cultural heritage preservation. Visitors can directly see the cultural value stored within this traditional item.

The hope is that these traditional baskets will not only be viewed but also become a symbol of identity and pride for the local community. By preserving them in the museum, they can continue to live on in the memory of future generations. ***
