KBRN, Sungailiat: In every traditional Acehnese wedding, there is one sacred tradition that is never skipped—peusijuek. This tradition is not merely symbolic; it is also a form of prayer, blessing, and hope from the family and community for the newlyweds.

According to Cut Sarah, an Acehnese native who recently got married, peusijuek is the most touching moment in the traditional ceremony.

"When peusijuek is performed, you truly feel the warmth of the family. It’s as if all the good prayers are being sent to us," she said on the Begaya program at Pro 4 RRI Sungailiat on Thursday, April 24, 2025, as quoted by rri.co.id.

Peusijuek is usually carried out by a community elder or traditional leader using special elements such as pandan leaf water, plain flour, and flower petals. This water is sprinkled on the couple's head, shoulders, and hands as a symbol of purification and a wish for a harmonious life.

Meanwhile, Rani who is also from Aceh, added that this tradition is a cultural heritage that must be preserved.

"Behind its simplicity, peusijuek carries deep philosophy. It is not just about tradition, but about gratitude and prayers offered to the Almighty," she said.

Despite the continuous evolution of time, the Acehnese people still uphold the practice of peusijuek, even in modern-style weddings. This demonstrates that cultural values remain deeply embedded in Acehnese society. ***
