KBRN, Jakarta: Batik, an Indonesian cultural heritage, enjoys global recognition. The island of Java hosts ten batik centers that preserve traditional craftsmanship and serve as vibrant creative economic tourism destinations, rri.co.id reported.

Since UNESCO recognized batik as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity on October 2, 2009, the batik industry has experienced rapid growth.

This surge has consequently boosted the establishment of batik centers across Indonesia. Each of these ten centers boasts unique characteristics, from color palettes to motifs, enriching the diversity of Indonesian batik.

Batik Trusmi in Cirebon, West Java

Trusmi Village stands as a hub for batik artisans, home to over 3,000 active artisans. Visitors can witness the batik-making process firsthand and purchase directly from the artisans.

The Mega Mendung is a significant motif unique to Cirebon, particularly Trusmi batik. This cloud motif, known for its layered and dynamic patterns, has become an iconic symbol of the region's batik artistry.

Batik Pekalongan, Central Java

Pekalongan dubbed the "City of Batik," showcases a dynamic range of motifs. The Pekalongan Batik Museum provides an educational experience for tourists eager to delve into batik's history.

Pekalongan batik is renowned for its motifs inspired by the sea, including marine life and waves, alongside designs influenced by Chinese cultures, such as phoenixes and dragons.

Batik Laweyan, Solo

Laweyan Village, one of Solo's oldest batik centers, showcases a blend of Javanese and European architecture. Here, travelers can learn the art of batik directly from skilled artisans.

Batik Kauman, Yogyakarta

Kauman Village provides an authentic batik tourism experience, where visitors can learn directly from numerous hand-written batik artisans who open their homes.
