RRI.CO.ID, Bukittinggi - A large public gathering in Bukittinggi, West Sumtra, highlighted the enduring bonds between Indonesia and Palestine, as local leaders and Palestinian representatives reaffirmed their commitment to humanitarian solidarity, peace, and mutual support.

The event took place during a Tabligh Akbar at Jami' Aur Kuning Mosque in Bukittinggi, on Sunday, October 4, 2026, bringing together community members and officials to express support for the Palestinian people.

Deputy Mayor Ibnu Asis said the gathering served as a platform to strengthen humanitarian awareness and reinforce the longstanding relationship between Bukittinggi and Palestine.

“We hope the bond of brotherhood between Bukittinggi and Palestine will continue through compassion and tangible support for people facing difficult circumstances. This solidarity reflects our commitment to promoting humanitarian values and peace,” Ibnu said on Sunday, as quoted by Antara.

He said the event was not only an occasion for prayer but also an opportunity to encourage collective efforts toward peace, justice, and freedom for the Palestinian people.

“We hope this moment further strengthens public concern for the situation faced by the Palestinian people. Support from various groups can become part of broader efforts to achieve a safe, dignified, and oppression-free life for them,” he added.

Ibnu added that the city’s support for Palestine is closely aligned with the Minangkabau philosophical principles of Adat Basandi Syarak, Syarak Basandi Kitabullah (ABS-SBK), which emphasize the integration of cultural and religious values in community life.

He said solidarity with Palestine reflects Bukittinggi residents’ commitment to humanitarian principles, brotherhood, and the protection of human rights. “Palestine and humanity are not merely themes. They reflect the concern of the people of Bukittinggi for the values of compassion, solidarity, and brotherhood,” he emphasized.

During the gathering, Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia Abdulfattah A.K. Al-Sattari expressed appreciation for the warm reception he received from both the city administration and local residents. He described Bukittinggi as a beautiful city with an important place in Indonesia’s history and thanked Indonesians for their continued support.

“I never feel like a foreigner in Indonesia. I feel as though I am in my own country and among my own people. Thank you to the Bukittinggi city administration and all residents for your kindness, concern, and support for Palestine,” he said.

Al-Sattari also spoke about conditions in Palestine, particularly in Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem, noting that the region continues to require international attention and prayers. He encouraged Indonesians to maintain their solidarity with the Palestinian people and expressed hope that future meetings could take place under more peaceful circumstances.

“Pray for us. God willing, our prayers will be answered. Hopefully, our next meeting will be at Al-Aqsa Mosque, a place full of blessings,” he concluded.

The gathering underscored the longstanding relationship between Indonesia and Palestine while reinforcing local efforts to express humanitarian support through community engagement, prayer, and advocacy for peace. ***
