RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Collaboration between public transport operators and local artists has proven effective in energizing the creative economy. Marking National Batik Day on Friday, October 2, 2026, Sukabumi Station in West Java was transformed into a cultural showcase, giving Batik Lokatmala a platform to display its expertise and flagship products to thousands of rail passengers.

Train customers and the public could watch the batik-making process firsthand through live demonstrations by Batik Lokatmala. The event was further enlivened by an angklung performance from Sukabumi City’s Transportation Agency.

Held interactively in the station area from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Jakarta Time, the batik demonstration allowed the public and passengers to get up close with every stage of the batik-making process.

The National Batik Day festivities were also felt at various service points within the State-owned Railways Company PT. Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Operational Area (Daop) 1 Jakarta. To celebrate the occasion, frontline staff, such as ticket counter agents, boarding personnel, and male and female train attendants (prama and prami), wore batik while serving customers.

Public Relations Manager of KAI Daop 1 Jakarta, Franoto Wibowo, said the series of activities reflects PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI)’s appreciation for batik as part of Indonesia’s cultural heritage.

“Through the National Batik Day momentum, customers at Sukabumi Station can see directly how batik-making is done. On the other hand, frontline officers across the Daop 1 Jakarta operational area are also wearing batik while serving customers,” said Franoto, on Friday.

According to Franoto, staff wearing batik also serves as a way to bring the spirit of National Batik Day closer to the public using rail services.

In addition to the batik demonstration, the angklung performance by Sukabumi City’s Transportation Agency added a cultural ambiance to the station environment. The combination of batik-making demonstrations and traditional music became a distinct attraction for both passengers and members of the public active at Sukabumi Station.

Franoto added that KAI Daop 1 Jakarta remains open to collaborations with various parties to bring educational and cultural activities into station spaces, while ensuring that all events prioritize passenger safety, security, and comfort.

“A station is a space that brings together people from diverse backgrounds. Therefore, we welcome activities that can provide added value and serve as a means to introduce and preserve Indonesian culture to the public,” he added, as quoted by Antara.

Through the 2026 National Batik Day commemoration, KAI Daop 1 Jakarta invited the public to continue wearing, promoting, and preserving batik as part of Indonesia’s national identity and pride.

“Happy National Batik Day 2026. May batik continue to grow, develop, and become ever closer to people’s lives from generation to generation,” concluded Franoto. ***
