RRI.CO.ID, Denpasar - The Bali Provincial Administration is seeking expanded investment and technological support from China, particularly in clean energy and sustainable infrastructure projects, to achieve regional energy independence.
Speaking during the 77th anniversary celebration of the founding of the People's Republic of China in Denpasar, Bali Governor Wayan Koster highlighted the importance of foreign direct investment in advancing the island's green transformation.
"Investment from China to achieve clean energy is highly expected to support Bali's energy independence," Koster said in an official release on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
The provincial administration is specifically targeting investment partnerships for a solar power plant (PLTS) initiative with a planned capacity of 1,000 to 1,500 MWp currently being processed by state utility PT PLN.
Concrete environmental cooperation between Bali and Chinese enterprises is already underway, including the Waste-to-Energy (PSEL) project initiated on July 8, 2026, by Weiming Environment Protection Co., Ltd. Targeted for completion in October 2027 and operational readiness by December 2027, the facility is designed to process up to 1,500 tons of daily waste from Denpasar City and Badung Regency.
Chinese Consul General in Denpasar Zhang Zhisheng welcomed the opportunity to deepen bilateral ties under the Belt and Road Initiative, noting that economic, cultural, and trade partnerships remain robust. Tourism from China to Bali exceeded 400,000 arrivals as of August 31, 2026, supported by the resumption of direct flight routes connecting Beijing and Denpasar. ***
