Restore Education in NTT, Government to Revitalize 1,487 Disaster-Hit Schools

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian government, through the Elementary and Secondary Education Ministry, will revitalize 1,487 educational units in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). The move is part of efforts to restore education after the region was hit by an earthquake some time ago.

Elementary and Secondary Education Minister, Abdul Mu’ti, said the revitalization reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that education services continue to operate, particularly in disaster-affected areas.

“Regarding information in NTT related to our commitment to disaster-affected areas, we will carry out revitalization. Including the elementary school just mentioned (SDN Mboeng), a total of 1,487 educational units in NTT alone,” said Minister Abdul Mu’ti during a meeting with Commission X of the House of Representatives in Jakarta on Monday, 21 September 2026.

He stressed that the ministry would implement the revitalization program as effectively as possible so that educational facilities in NTT can be used again under proper conditions. Previously, the ministry had allocated a budget of around IDR 1.2 trillion (USD 67.16 million) for the revitalization of educational units in NTT.

Repairs will target school buildings that have suffered severe damage, as well as learning spaces that have so far been operating in temporary structures. The revitalization is expected not only to fix damaged buildings but also to create a safer, healthier school environment that supports teaching and learning activities.

The availability of adequate classrooms is one important aspect to ensure students can attend lessons without being in buildings that pose safety risks.

Construction and repairs can begin immediately after the second tranche of the Additional Expenditure Budget (ABT) for the school revitalization program is included in the Budget Implementation Document (DIPA) and disbursed to schools.

In addition to the main revitalization budget, the ministry has also disbursed IDR 860 million (USD 48,136) for initial response measures at dozens of schools affected by the earthquake in NTT.

These steps are part of the government’s efforts to restore educational activities while ensuring that learners in affected areas continue to have access to safe and adequate learning facilities. (Annaila Azzahra-EN)
