RRI.CO.ID, Banyuwangi - Chinese marine enterprise MATA Ecology has selected Banyuwangi Regency, East Java, as its initial investment location in Indonesia to establish an integrated, sustainable oyster aquaculture and downstream blue industry hub.
During a presentation to Banyuwangi Regent Ipuk Fiestiandani on Monday, August 31, 2026, MATA Ecology outlined a comprehensive investment model spanning eco-friendly cultivation, coastal management, and processing downstream derivatives, including converting discarded oyster shells into agricultural fertilizer.
MATA Ecology executives cited Banyuwangi's year-round favorable water temperatures, favorable climate, absence of typhoons, and local workforce availability as prime conditions for continuous cultivation. Supported by Indonesia House of Representatives (DPR) Commission IV member Rokhmin Dahuri and local partner PT Surya Jaya Investama, the project aims to drive local coastal economic growth through community-partnered farming models and fisheries value addition.
Regency officials and investment partners emphasized that blue economy investments must pair industrial growth with strict environmental sustainability and local community empowerment.
Banyuwangi Regent Ipuk Fiestiandani welcomed the sustainable investment framework and its potential benefits for coastal communities.
"The presented concept is compelling because it centers on a blue industry approach, managing oyster cultivation in an environmentally friendly manner while directly involving local residents, we believe sustainable oyster cultivation will generate regional benefits by increasing investment, creating job opportunities, developing coastal economies, and boosting value addition for Banyuwangi's marine and fisheries sector," Ipuk Fiestiandani said in Banyuwangi on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, as quoted by Infopublik.id.
President Director of MATA Ecology Wang Yong Ming highlighted why Banyuwangi was selected as the firm's maiden entry point into Indonesia.
"Banyuwangi offers ideal conditions; there are no typhoons and the temperature is suited for year-round oyster cultivation, this marks our first investment in Indonesia, and we chose Banyuwangi because of its immense marine potential and welcoming investment climate," Wang Yong Ming explained on Monday, August 31, 2026. ***
