Badung Regency Promotes Customary-Based Economic Ecosystem

RRI.CO.ID, Badung - Efforts to strengthen a customary-based economic ecosystem are being promoted to help sustain Bali’s arts and traditions. Through management rooted in local values, hundreds of village credit institutions, known as Village Credit Institution (LPDs), in Badung are expected not only to generate economic value but also to make a tangible contribution to the continuity of customary activities and the sovereignty of local communities.
“We are fully committed to supporting LPDs, not only in terms of capital, but also through strengthening the broader macroeconomic ecosystem,” said Badung Regent, I Wayan Adi Arnawa, in a statement in Mangupura on Monday, 24 August 2026.
He said synergy among all stakeholders, including LPDs, was particularly important in building the economic ecosystem. The local administration continues to strengthen the effort beginning with infrastructure development.
“We believe that with infrastructure, people will be more comfortable investing. As a result, the economy will grow and have an impact on the incomes of Badung residents in particular, and Bali in general,” he said, as quoted by Antara.
Regent Adi expressed appreciation for the performance of the Badung Village Credit Institution Cooperation Agency (BKS-LPD). At its 26th anniversary commemoration, BKS-LPD was encouraged to continue strengthening cooperation to establish LPDs that are healthy, strong, and sustainable, while supporting sovereign customary villages.
“We hope that BKS-LPD Badung will continue to foster a sense of togetherness, become more advanced and productive, and remain firmly guided by the principles of Tri Hita Karana (three causes of well-being and prosperity),” he said.
Chairperson of the Bali Provincial BKS-LPD, Nyoman Cendikiawan, added that LPDs in Badung had become a provincial benchmark, with many of their programmes adopted by the Bali Provincial BKS-LPD.
Badung Regency currently has 122 LPDs supported by 1,331 employees, with total assets reaching IDR 11 trillion (USD 620.6 million). The institutions have also made a significant contribution to Bali’s economy.
“The total assets of LPDs across Bali currently stand at IDR 36 trillion (USD 2.03 billion), and 31 percent of that total comes from Badung LPDs. Let us continue safeguarding LPDs, so that they remain resilient and successful in preserving Balinese arts, customs, and culture,” he added. ***
