RRI.CO.ID, Palembang - The Palembang City Administration in South Sumatra officially opened avenues for artistic and cultural exchange with the royal descendants of the Jambal Kingdom of Kelantan, Malaysia, following a bilateral reception in Palembang on Thursday, August 20, 2026.
Palembang Deputy Mayor Prima Salam welcomed the Malaysian delegation, led by Datok Adnan, during their five-day cultural visit aimed at reconnecting historical lineages and ancestral heritage. Despite the dissolution of the historic sultanate in 1823, both regions share deep-rooted Malay cultural ties, customary traditions, attire, and culinary heritage.
The delegation's itinerary includes visits to key historic landmarks, including the Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin IV Palace, Balaputra Dewa Museum, Kemaro Island, and the Palembang Great Mosque. The city administration also proposed reciprocal visits involving local artists and cultural practitioners to formalize broader bilateral heritage programs.
Municipal authorities and delegation leaders emphasized that reconnecting historical kinships across the Malay Archipelago strengthens regional stability and cultural preservation. Palembang Deputy Mayor Prima Salam highlighted the historical continuity binding both regions.
"The Jambal Kingdom holds historical and kinship ties with Palembang, this visit serves as momentum to strengthen family ties while opening opportunities for artistic and cultural exchange between Palembang and Malaysia. We hope this becomes the beginning of broader cultural cooperation," Prima said in Palembang on Thursday, August 20, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Delegation Leader Datok Adnan noted the importance of tracing ancestral roots across the archipelago.
