RRI.CO.ID, Sumedang - Efforts to create a more natural environment are underway at the Sumedang Administration Center (PPS) in Sumedang Regency, West Java. Approximately 60 sooty-headed bulbuls (Pycnonotus aurigaster) and yellow-vented bulbuls (Pycnonotus goiavier) were released in the area on Monday, August 17, 2026.
The release was led by Sumedang Deputy Regent, M. Fajar Aldila, in collaboration with a bird enthusiasts’ community. In addition to supporting wildlife conservation, the activity was expected to add a natural atmosphere to the administration center.
Fajar praised the involvement of the bird enthusiasts’ community, which has actively contributed to protecting wildlife and the environment. He said the presence of birds living freely in the PPS area could create a different atmosphere for the public and administration employees who conduct their daily activities there.
“The presence of birds in the wild is expected to create a cooler and more comfortable atmosphere for the public and employees working at the PPS,” said Fajar on Monday.
He noted that environmental conservation did not always have to involve large-scale activities. Simple steps, such as providing wildlife with space to live in a suitable habitat, also reflected concern for the environment.
Chairperson of the Kutilang Bird Enthusiasts’ Community, Asep, said the release of the birds was part of a conservation initiative and an effort to restore a natural atmosphere to the PPS area.
The sooty-headed and yellow-vented bulbuls were selected because they are closely associated with natural environments and have distinctive calls that can enhance the area’s greenery and tranquility.
“This is a release of sooty-headed and yellow-vented bulbuls for conservation and to create a warmer atmosphere at the PPS, so people can hear the sounds of birds in nature,” said Asep.
Following the release, the PPS area is expected to serve not only as a center of administration activity but also to develop into a greener and more wildlife-friendly space.
The activity also served as a reminder that protecting the environment is a shared responsibility. Continued collaboration between the local administration, communities, and residents is expected to help create an increasingly green and comfortable environment in Sumedang. (Annaila Azzahra-EN)
