RRI.CO.ID, Pekanbaru - Delegates representing Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand (IMT) commended Pekanbaru’s implementation of eco-friendly urban infrastructure during a site visit to the Putri Kaca Mayang Public Green Space (Ruang Terbuka Hijau or RTH) on Jenderal Sudirman Street on Wednesday, August 5, 2026.
The field inspection formed a key highlight of the 9th Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle Green Cities Mayor Council (IMT-GT GCMC) meeting hosted in Pekanbaru. The park showcases a multi-functional green city design that integrates family recreation facilities, an on-site public library, and circular economy initiatives.
Among the featured sustainability programs is a dedicated waste station where residents can deposit sorted inorganic waste in exchange for e-money. Municipal officials also presented a landfill waste management model currently operated by PT Indonesia Clean Energy (ICE) to capture methane gas, positioning Pekanbaru to capture carbon credits and advance sustainable urban development across the regional bloc.
Municipal executive leaders affirmed that cross-border collaboration and off-budget corporate partnerships are essential to accelerating sustainable green city development.
Pekanbaru Mayor Agung Nugroho highlighted the eco-friendly features demonstrated to the international delegation. "At this RTH, there is also a library so parents can read books while accompanying their children at play," Agung said in Pekanbaru on Thursday, August 6, 2026, as quoted by Infopublik.id.
"We explained the entire green city concept at RTH Putri Kaca Mayang to the delegates, and they all expressed their appreciation. God willing, we will share knowledge and provide access to collaborate with environmentally conscious companies without relying on the regional budget (APBD)," he added. ***
