RRI.CO.ID, Malang - A fire in the Bantengan Block has prompted the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) Center in East Java to tighten monitoring of tourist activity and close part of the access routes to Mount Bromo starting Monday night, August 3, 2026. The management strongly urged all visitors and tourism service providers not to use fire carelessly in order to prevent a repeat of the incident in the vulnerable area.
Head of the TNBTS Authority, Rudijanta Tjahja Nugraha, said the decision to close several access points to Bromo was made to maximize firefighting efforts and ensure the safety of all tourists.
“To facilitate firefighting efforts and take visitor safety into account, tourist visits to Bromo through the Jemplang, Coban Trisula, and Senduro entrances are closed to visitors,” said Rudi in Malang, East Java, on Monday.
As reported by Antara, the closure of the three access points took effect at 10 p.m. Jakarta time on Monday and will remain in place until further notice. Based on preliminary information received by the TNBTS Authority, the forest fire in the Bantengan Block broke out at around 5 p.m. Jakarta time.
Rudi said the public may still access the Mount Bromo area through other entrances, namely Cemoro Lawang in Probolinggo Regency and Wonokitri in Pasuruan Regency. However, visitors are only allowed to enter the tourist area up to the Sea of Sand and are not permitted to proceed to the Savanna area.
He urged the public, tourists, and tourism service providers to help protect the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park by carrying out activities in accordance with applicable regulations. “Pay attention to the use of fire for the sake of our shared safety, security, and comfort,” he said.
Meanwhile, TNBTS Public Relations Officer, Endrip Wahyutama, said the authority has not yet been able to confirm how large the burned area in the Bantengan Block is.
“There is no estimate yet. At present, the team is focusing on extinguishing the fire. After the fire has been put out and the situation is declared safe, a team will conduct measurements to determine the affected area,” said Endrip. ***
