Extreme Drought Sparks 14 Land Fires in Tangerang

RRI.CO.ID, Tangerang - Fires have once again hit Tangerang Regency, Banten, as the region continues to face the impact of extreme drought. After 12 fire hotspots were previously recorded, the number has now risen to 14 on Friday, July 24, 2026.

Head of the Tangerang Regency Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), Achmad Taufik, said the Tangerang Regency Fire Fighters has been dealing with multiple land and waste fires in a single day during the dry season. “Yesterday, Tangerang Regency fire officers extinguished 11 land and waste fires,” he said on Thursday, July 24, 2026.

Based on data from the BPBD operations center in Tangerang Regency, there were 14 fire incidents today. Of that total, seven were grass fires and five were trash fires.

“Most fires occurred between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. Jakarta time. That is why we are asking the public to be alert to the potential for fires during the dry season,” he said.

Tangerang Regency is known as a fire-prone area during extreme drought. Several of the incidents involved waste disposal sites, grasslands, and open land.

“There were 11 incidents of open-land, grass, and waste fires throughout today in Tangerang Regency,” said Head of the Fire Suppression and Rescue Division of the Tangerang Regency BPBD, Agun Guntara, on Thursday, July 23, 2026.

He said the fires broke out from morning until 4 p.m. Jakarta time, with 11 incidents recorded at several locations across Tangerang Regency. “Almost all fire crews were dispatched from their stations to extinguish the fires,” he said. (Annaila Azzahra-EN)
