Government Grants Legal Protection to Nagan Raya’s Cultural Heritage in Aceh

RRI.CO.ID, Banda Aceh - Nagan Raya’s rich culinary and cultural traditions have gained formal recognition, as the Ministry of Law's Aceh Regional Office officially granted legal protection to four local heritage assets.
The move, marked by the handover of Communal Intellectual Property (KIK) certificates, underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding regional identity against external claims and the pressures of modernization.
The certificates were presented by Head of the Law Ministry's Aceh Office, Meurah Budiman, to Nagan Raya Regent TR Keumangan during the district’s 24th anniversary celebration at Suka Makmue town square on Sunday evening, July 19, 2026.
The recognition covers four distinct cultural treasures: Tumpoe (local delicacy), Tapak Gajah (a traditional motif or cultural symbol), Kue Karah (crispy, sweet, bird’s nest shape snack), and Bungong Jaroe traditional Acehnese dance).
Meurah Budiman emphasized that the registration of communal intellectual property reflects the state’s presence in protecting local heritage.
“These cultural assets, such as tumpoe and kue karah, embody the identity of Nagan Raya’s people. With the issuance of KIK certificates, their cultural and historical values are now formally acknowledged and safeguarded under national law,” he said.
The initiative was warmly welcomed by the regency administration. Addressing thousands of residents and local leaders, Regent TR Keumangan stressed the importance of preserving ancestral traditions for future generations.
He cautioned that economic growth and infrastructure development must not erode cultural values.
“Modern progress should never make us forget our cultural roots. The protection of local heritage, initiated by the Ministry of Law, is a vital foundation for building a more advanced, prosperous, and dignified Nagan Raya,” he affirmed. ***
