RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) says the West Java Provincial Administration has officially declared an emergency alert status for drought and forest and land fires. This measure aims to anticipate the widening impacts of the clean-water crisis and the heightened risk of blazes during the dry season.
Head of BNPB’s Data, Information, and Disaster Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, said the emergency alert provides the legal basis for local administrations to secure logistics and handle urgent responses.
“The drought’s impact has attracted the attention of the West Java Provincial Administration, which responded by declaring an Emergency Alert status for drought and forest fires across West Java,” he said on Thursday, 2 July 2026.
He explained the provincial emergency alert took effect on 1 July 2026. The policy was enacted in response to rising reports of drought incidents across several regencies in West Java.
A rapid field assessment identified one affected area in Pedangkamulyan Village, Bojonggambir Subdistrict, Tasikmalaya Regency, where falling water source discharge has left residents struggling to obtain clean water for daily needs.
BNPB’s Operations Control Center (Pusdalops) recorded that at least 850 households in the village are impacted by the clean-water crisis.
In response, the Tasikmalaya Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) has deployed a rapid response team to distribute clean water to residents. Abdul Muhari said water deliveries have been carried out regularly since Wednesday, 1 July 2026, to ensure basic needs remain met during the drought. (Annaila Azzahra-EN)
