RRI.CO.ID, Pontianak - Aloe vera from West Kalimantan has strong export potential due to the region’s favorable soil characteristics. The government aims to increase its economic value by encouraging cultivation, processing, and market expansion.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Sudaryono, said Pontianak City has significant potential for aloe vera development, with soil conditions that support the production of export-quality products.
“This bumper harvest and direct inspection of aloe vera farmland symbolize the government’s commitment to restoring this commodity’s glory. Pontianak’s soil characteristics strongly support the growth of export-quality aloe vera. This potential must continue to be developed,” Sudaryono said in Pontianak on Sunday, June 28, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
He added that boosting aloe vera production alone is not enough; the processing industry must also be strengthened to deliver greater value to farmers and local businesses.
The government is committed to promoting high-quality regional commodities as part of a sustainable agricultural development plan to drive the local economy.
West Kalimantan Governor Ria Norsan said aloe vera has long been an important part of Pontianak’s agricultural identity, and its development must be carried out sustainably through increased production, processing, and market expansion.
According to Norsan, the provincial administration continues to accelerate downstream processing so that aloe vera can be developed into high-value products, thereby increasing farmers’ incomes and strengthening the local economy, leveraging the region’s superior potential.
He is optimistic that collaboration between the central government, regional administrations, businesses, and communities can restore aloe vera’s glory as a driver of West Kalimantan’s economy and improve farmers’ welfare. ***
