Galungan in Palangka Raya Strengthens Brotherhood and Interfaith Harmony

RRI.CO.ID, Palangka Raya - Hundreds of Hindus from various regoins of Palangka Raya City took part in a communal worship service to mark the Galungan holiday at Pura Pitamaha in Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan, on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. The celebration proceeded solemnly and served as a moment to reinforce spiritual values and enhance the quality of religious life.

From the morning, worshippers arrived at the temple to join a series of rituals led by religious leaders. Dressed in traditional religious attire, they prayed devoutly and offered ritual offerings as expressions of gratitude to Ida Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa, the Almighty God of hindu.

Head of Hindu Public Relations at the Regional Office of the Central Kalimantan Religious Affairs Ministry, I Made Adnyana, explained that Galungan is a major Indonesian Hindu festival that commemorates the triumph of Dharma (righteousness) over Adharma (unrighteousness). It is observed every 210 days, during which spirits of ancestors are believed to visit Earth, and communities celebrate with communal temple prayers and elaborate street offerings.

“Galungan carries the message that Hindus should always uphold the values of Dharma in daily life. This moment reminds all of us to remain on the path of truth, practice self-control, and strengthen our relationship with God,” he said, as quoted by infopublik.id.

I Made Adnyana added that the Galungan celebration is also an opportunity for Hindus to reflect on their actions and behavior. The occasion is a means to renew their commitment to practicing religious teachings more faithfully.

He added that Galungan helps strengthen feelings of brotherhood and togetherness within the community. The values embodied in the celebration are seen as relevant to bolstering interfaith harmony and maintaining social cohesion in Central Kalimantan.

“Through this celebration, we hope Hindus will continue to spread the spirit of goodness, preserve unity, and contribute to creating a peaceful, harmonious society,” he concluded. ***
