Bintan Fast-Tracks Road Repairs Ahead of Tour de Bintan 2026

RRI.CO.ID, Tanjungpinang - With hundreds of international cyclists set to race across Bintan in August, the Riau Islands Provincial Administration and the National Road Implementation Agency (BPJN) have accelerated road repairs and maintenance. This initiative aims to guarantee both safety and the region’s appeal as a sport-tourism destination.
Riau Islands Governor, Ansar Ahmad, said road upkeep on Bintan is a top priority because the race will be traversed by riders from multiple countries. He framed the work as local administration support to ensure the success of this year’s Tour de Bintan.
“Road maintenance is not only intended to beautify the race route, but also an important factor in ensuring the safety and comfort of Tour de Bintan participants,” said Ansar in Tanjungpinang on Saturday, June 13, 2026.
Head of the Riau Islands’ Public Works Agency, Soendiarto, reported that repairs on two main bridges along the West Bintan Cross Road, Ekang Bridge and Anculai Bridge, are being fast-tracked to support a smooth race. He said work on the bridges’ approaches is targeted for full completion by August 2026, before the event begins.
“We are optimistic the work can finish earlier. Various acceleration measures have been implemented, from faster procurement of materials, adding equipment and manpower, to increasing effective working hours on site,” said Soendiarto, as quoted by Antara.
Head of the Riau Islands Tourism Agency, Hasan, confirmed the Tour de Bintan will take place from 21 to 23 August 2026 in the Lagoi Bay and Bintan Resorts area, Bintan Regency. The international cycling event is a flagship sport-tourism activity for the province and is expected to draw foreign visitors while stimulating the local economy and tourism sector, especially in Bintan.
This year’s program offers multiple categories for riders of differing abilities. The headline event is the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) 1.2 Point Race, an official UCI competition that awards international ranking points.
Other categories include Gran Fondo Classic 150 km, Gran Fondo Century 100 km, Gran Fondo Challenge 70 km, Gran Fondo Discovery 45 km, and an Individual Time Trial of 17 km. Organizers target roughly 700 participants, mainly from countries across Asia and Europe.
"Participants will traverse a route that offers a unique tropical panorama of Bintan Island, starting from the coastal areas, villages, to the edges of the forest, which is a special attraction for international cyclists," said Hasan. ***
