RRI.CO.ID, Mataram - Nusa Tenggara Barat (NTB) is widening its international gateway as weekly direct flights between Singapore and Lombok jump from four to ten. Local leaders say this boost will sharpen the island’s appeal to global travelers ahead of a busy events calendar.

NTB Governor, Lalu Muhamad Iqbal, welcomed the increased connectivity, noting that the additional services will be operated by Scoot, the low-cost affiliate of Singapore Airlines.

"With this increase, Lombok officially cements its position as the destination with the highest flight frequency from Singapore outside Java and Bali," he said in Mataram on Wednesday, June 10, 2026.

Governor Iqbal described the expanded schedule as the payoff from sustained diplomacy and coordinated efforts to lift tourism and the regional economy.

"Thank God, after a long effort, our international flight frequency has increased by six flights a week. So what used to be only 14 international flights per week, starting this June becomes 20 flights per week," he said, as quoted by Antara.

The former Indonesian ambassador to Turkey added that the provincial administration will continue pushing for more international links, with pending permits for direct routes between Lombok and Darwin and Lombok and Perth.

"We are still awaiting the licensing process for the Lombok–Darwin and Lombok–Perth routes," he said.

Officials view the acceleration of international services as strategic preparation for several large-scale sports events coming to NTB, including the Pocari Sweat Run in July and the MotoGP race in October 2026. The governor also noted the achievement stands out amid a broader contraction of international routes in other parts of Indonesia.

"While foreign carriers are reducing schedules to destinations in Indonesia, Lombok has succeeded in increasing schedules significantly," he said.

Over the past year, local authorities have helped open five new international destinations. If approvals for the Australian routes are granted, NTB would add two more links, bringing the total to seven new international destinations.

Governor Iqbal added that the province has also secured 12 additional weekly schedules on existing routes. "With increasingly open flight access, NTB is now ready to pamper international tourists while strengthening its position as a leading tourism magnet for Indonesia’s future," concluded the governor. ***
