RRI.CO.ID, Pekanbaru - Firefighters from Manggala Agni’s Sumatra wildfire control unit have successfully extinguished a 108‑hectare forest and land fire in Tanjung Kapal, Pulau Rupat, Bengkalis Regency, Riau Province. This effort was done through a multi‑sector operation backed by interregional support.
Head of the Sumatra Wildfire Control Agency, Ferdian Krisnanto, said the operation in Tanjung Kapal was carried out across three sectors to ensure all remaining hotspots were addressed. The final mop‑up was completed by the Manggala Agni regional operation based in Siak, with reinforcement from two teams each sent from Jambi and Muara Tebo.
“Praise be, yesterday afternoon we declared the fire fully extinguished. The Manggala Agni teams from Siak, Jambi City and Muara Tebo are being demobilized today,” he said in a statement received in Pekanbaru on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.
Ferdian explained that teams were previously split into several sectors. Teams from Siak Regional Operation and Jambi, two squads each, systematically checked and deepened firebreaks toward the interior.
Using a relay system of temporary reservoirs, they advanced until the last fire point met the firefighting crew from PT Sumatera Riang Lestari.
“They carried out suppression with a water‑relay strategy using collapsible tanks and hose runs up to 40 rolls to the final fire point. As a result, the right and left flanks were fully extinguished,” said Ferdian, as quoted by Antara.
He noted obstacles on both flanks, including fallen trees blocking access and complicating movement for nozzlemen (hose operators) approaching the flames. Other challenges included limited access, infrastructure, and logistics, although assistance from a company’s heavy equipment helped open routes and create relay reservoirs. ***
